CTRL-ESC CTRL-ESC is imple- mented by holding down Ctrl and press- ing ESC. CPAUSE01 0 EESC CCESC * * * The Message Composition Screen * * * This screen will permit you to select a pager (by user name) and compose a message that may be sent to that person. When all fields have been entered OR passed thru by pressing the enter key, a CONFIRM prompt will appear. If you press enter the system will attempt to send the message that appears on the screen. Pressing ESC or CTRL-ESC will either return you to the composition screen or terminate the procedure. If a send attempt is made, an entry will be made into the message file - if the page service is sucessfully contacted. CONFIRM When the confirm prompt appears, it indicates that you should check the enteries that you have made. If all is correct, press enter to continue processing. Pressing Ctrl-Esc will terminate the current function. * * * Control Codes * * * Control codes are characters sent to your computer by the Host to indicate what action your communi- cation program needs to take. ACK: - Ok, continue NAK: - Error, resend ESC: - The next char is a code RS : - Abandon current, do next EOT: - Hang up Device The device is the DOS device that will receive the printed report. The default printer is PRN. If you have a second printer hooked to your computer, you may need to use LPT2. The ESC Key On most keyboards the ESC Key is locate in the upper left hand corner. It usually is labelled Esc. TTABLE01 * * * The Form * * * The form is the basic insert, delete and change mechanism and is usually entered via the table. In the case of insert and change, data is entered in the appropriate location according to screen display. As in the table there may be function key indications. See table help screen for selection instructions. Pressing ESC (or Cntrl ESC) will exit and cancel the screen actions. See Also:The Table FUNCTION KEYS Function keys are the keys labelled with an "F" and a number. They are used to implement special functions from the screen that your are on. TFORM01 Group Setup Groups are identified by a two character code. When group transmission is selected, all pagers belonging to the selected group will be sent a message. If no pagers belong to the requested group NO error indication is given. A pager may belong to up to five groups. To avoid confusion chose character codes that are identifiable. While not critical - since a description is associated with each group - it may help in finding the correct item in a complex structure. A selection can be made by pressing the first letter of the desired function or by moving the highlighted selection bar by using the arrow keys. Once the desired selection is made, pressing the enter (or return) key will start the requested action. * * * Message Data * * * This is where the message text is entered. There are four lines. Either enter text into, or leave blank and press enter until all four lines have been passed. SCOMPOS01 Sending a Message Now or Later You may send the message that you have just written now - or you may wait until later to send it. If you elect to send it later, it will be saved in the message file as an "O" type (open) message. Selecting Send Message from the compose menu will send "O" type messages from the message file, marking them as "Y" for sent or "N" as not sent. If you wish to abort the function and return to the prior menu, press CTRL-ESC. ESC/CTRL-ESC General Information GGRPFRM TFORM01 * * * The Pager Form * * * The pager allowes you to associate a Name, Pager Id, and up to five groups for messaging capability. ID:Unique Identifier for the record if you have multiples, you will select the one to use when you send a message. Port: Choose a port 1 thru 4. BAUD: The selection of 1200 should yield good results. Date&Time: Enter "Y" if you want the date and time included in the message text. Service Phone:Begin this entry with DT if you are using tone service, DP if you have pulse service. Follow it with the number of your pager service. Modem Init String:Beginning with AT the codes sent to the modem. SSELTBL Preferance Selection Table This Selection Table permits you to select the dial up parameters that you wish to use. Number to Send You may elect to send LESS messages than you have on file. This could be desirable due to time considera- tions. Usually you should enter the number shown as messages available to send. TTABLE01 * * * The Selection Table * * * A table can be use as a selection device as well as a change device. When a table "pop's up" in response to pressing enter or enter data into a field, you a viewing a selection table. Positioning the highlight bar on the desired item and pressing enter will cause the appropriate data to be entered into the data field that caused data selection See Also: The Table TSELTBL GCOMPOS01 * * * Send Message to * * * You may enter a name, the first few charcters of a name or press enter to call up the Name/Pager selection table. When the selection table appears, you may select (by moving the highlight bar) the person you wish to send a message See Also Table Selection/General Information The port is a number that tells your software how to send data to the out- side world. Usually in ranges of one to four, one or two is the most common. The term baud indicates the speed at which data is sent to the out- side world. You will probably find that 300 or 1200 (1200 is preferred) will be the recommended setting. Your ser- vice provider should tell you the connect baud rate. Dial Command Strings DT and DP are prefixes to the tele- phone number that the modem will dial. Standing for "Dial Tone" and "Dial Pulse", they inform the modem of how your phone system works. The Modem Init String The modem init string contains the control sequences necessary to cause the modem to function properly for dialing and task initialization. It should include the AT code followed by the codes to set no echo (E), quite mode off (Q0), numeric result codes (V0) and extended result codes on (x4). CCTLCD * * * The Receive Stack * * * The receive stack is a list of messages received from the message host during the last transmission. It includes all control codes as well as any error messages or acknowledg- ments. If you have difficulty sending messages, this stack may assist you or your technician in determining the nature of the problem. MMENU01 FFUNCKEY TSELTBL * * * The Table * * * The table presents a tabular view of your data and is usually entered via the MENU. In many cases you may select a highlighted item for update by pressing the enter key. A highlighted item may be deleted by pressing the Delete key. A new item may be inserted by pressing the insert key. In some cases you may notice Function Key instructions on the table screen. Pressing the indicated function key will cause that action to be performed. Function key notation example: F2:Exit action. In this case, pressing F2 would cause the current action to be terminated.
